Apple will allow easy transfer between iPhone and Android

The American company Apple announced that it is working on a new technological standard, starting next year, that allows for the exchange of instant text messages more smoothly between iPhone and Android devices over the Internet.

It announced in a statement that it will begin supporting the advanced instant messaging standard RCS, which will facilitate the process of messaging between iPhone and Android phone users over the Internet, without the need for third-party applications, which is a major shift in the company’s policy.

The RCS standard is the latest GSM messaging standard, and is considered an evolution of the standards for text messages (SMS) and multimedia (MMS). It can send and receive text messages over the Internet, as well as exchange photos, videos, and large files, in addition to providing information about the status of access and reading of messages.

Refuse invitations

For more than a year, Apple has continued to reject the calls and pressures of many technology companies, including Google and Samsung, to support the RCS standard for instant messaging on its devices, according to what was reported by the British “Daily Mail”.

An Apple spokesperson told 9to5 Mac: “Later next year, we will add support for RCS Universal Profile, which is the standard currently published by the GSM Association.”

He also said that the new system will work alongside iMessage, which allows seamless communication between iPhones. The “iMessage” service allows Apple device users to message each other in blue in conversations, while messages appear in green if there is an Android user in the individual or group conversation.

Google introduced RCS to its customers in the United States in 2019, including read receipts, writing indicators, and using WiFi to send messages.

RCS is designed to replace the Short Message Standard (SMS) and has been developed since 2007 with the help of the trade body Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA).

Apple's decision coincided with reports about Google's attempts and discussions with the European Union Antitrust Committee to classify Apple's iMessage service as a Gatekeeper, which means it is a monopoly tool used by Apple to deprive iPhone users in Europe of the freedom to choose the form of communication with users of other phones.
