Ferulic acid is a new revolution in the world of cosmetics

Cosmetic laboratories are witnessing a high demand for the use of ferulic acid, which is known in the list of cosmetic ingredients under the name Ferulic Acid, due to its benefits in the field of protecting the skin from the signs of premature aging. Learn about the most prominent properties and advantages of this vegetable acid below.

Ferulic acid takes its name from plants belonging to the “Ferula” family. It is derived from cinnamic acid and is found in addition to plants in grains such as rice, bran, wheat, and oats.

This acid has been chemically manufactured since the twenties of the last century for use in cosmetics, specifically in repairing serums and creams, in addition to peeling preparations that remove pigmentation from the skin. The demand for its use has recently returned after a series of studies that revealed new benefits in the field of preserving skin youth.

Efficiency booster:

One of the most prominent characteristics of this acid is that it is suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive ones, and it is used at a concentration ranging between 0,01 and 3 percent in facial care products. Its effectiveness is directly related to the other elements that are present with it in the list of ingredients, as although it does not play the role of the “most prominent ingredient” in any care product, it remains a major actor within the formulas in which it is present.

This is because it is an active ingredient that doubles the effect of other antioxidants around it. Ferulic acid is often associated with vitamin C, as it has the ability to stabilize this component, which loses its effectiveness when exposed to air, and it also supports its anti-wrinkle effect and enhances skin freshness. We also find it accompanied by vitamin E, which is known for its antioxidant effect, and it works to delay cell aging and maintains high levels of skin moisture.

Benefits of this acid:

Ferulic acid enhances the antioxidant effect by affecting:
Premature aging of the skin:
New research has shown the effect of this acid on a protein responsible for activating the skin's natural antioxidant defences. It is thus able to combat the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays, pollution, smoking, stress, and an unbalanced diet. This acid is also effective in enhancing the elasticity and health of the skin by protecting it from oxidative stress, from premature damage to collagen and elastin fibers, and from a decline in the proportion of natural hyaluronic acid.

Dark spots:
Ferulic acid helps regulate melanin production when it is present with vitamin C or E, and also reduces blemishes that appear on the surface of the skin when overexposure to the sun or aging. Thus, it contributes to maintaining the freshness and radiance of the skin for as long as possible.
