A Russian expert warned against taking a cold shower, stressing that it is not always useful and healthy.
According to Russian media, Dr. Vladimir Khrushchev, a doctor of cardiovascular surgery, said that in the warm season, many people try to take a shower with cold water or wash their hair with cold water. However, this is not the best option for health. Because it can lead not only to spasms in the blood vessels, but also to poison the body.
He added: “The bulk of all the blood vessels in our bodies are capillaries of different levels. If a person has to bathe in cold water for a long time, this will lead to a strong capillary spasm and impoverishment of blood flow in the capillaries, especially in the soft tissues, starting from the subcutaneous tissue. The longer a person stands under a cold shower, the greater the risk of catching a cold, as prolonged capillary spasm leads to oxygen starvation, and soft tissues are saturated with hypoxic products, which leads to severe poisoning affecting vital organs - the brain, heart, liver and pancreas.”
According to the Russian doctor, it is not recommended to stand under a shower of cold water for more than 3-4 minutes. For people with poor health, avoid this process completely.
He said: “A person can stand in a shower of cold water for no more than 3-4 minutes. Because staying longer is dangerous to health. And if a person suffers from health problems in the heart and atherosclerosis, he should avoid showering with cold water, because it is dangerous to his life.”
