Controversy over the eavesdropping feature on iPhones

A British actress has ignited social media after revealing that iPhones can help people listen to conversations that happen 15 meters away.

Elizabeth Henstridge, best known for her role as Gemma Simmons in Marvel's Agents, was shocked to discover Apple's "Live Lysine" feature that allows a person to be heard talking across a different room, according to the Daily Mail.

The feature, which can be accessed through the ear button and headphones, is designed as a hearing aid. Henstridge, however, raised her concerns that it was being used for "evil purposes". And she said during a video via "Tik Tok", in which she revealed this feature: "So, we are all spies now?!"

It is noteworthy that this discovery, which spread quickly, as the video gained 3.6 million views since it was uploaded to the Internet on Wednesday, sparked widespread controversy and a wave of different responses.

One wrote, “A whole chaotic path of broken marriages and relationships begins in minutes,” while the second added, “I’m trying to figure out how far 15 metres.” A third user explained: “You have to decide in advance whether you really want to hear what is being said or not.”

Activate the feature

According to Apple's website, Love Lyssin can help you overhear a conversation in a noisy room or hear someone talking across the room.

The setup also turns your iPhone into a remote microphone that sends sound to the device's hearing assistant. And if you're within meters of your phone, you can still listen to sound through wireless headphones or hearing aids, depending on their range.

The feature can also be activated by going to Settings, then Accessibility, and selecting “MFI Hearing”.
