Macron's wife, the strongest candidate for the presidency of France, is a quarter of a century older than him, and he was her daughter's friend

The next first lady of France may be a grandmother of seven, and her husband is 25 years older, as she was his school teacher when he was a teenager.

Brigitte Trogneux, 64, is a former drama coach for centre-left candidate Emmanuel Macron, 39, who voter polls predict will be France's next president.

The couple's next residents are likely to be the Elysee Palace, making Macron the youngest French leader in modern history.

Last night, April 23, 2017, Brigitte stood next to her husband, waving and smiling at the crowd. Speaking, after two of France's main parties were excluded from the election race, Macron said: "We have turned a page in French political history."

The couple first met when Mr. Macron was 15, and later he made a surprising promise to his mentor.

Brigitte told the French magazine Paris Match last year that Macron, at the age of 2016, told her: "Whatever you do, I will marry you."

The relationship began after Mr. Macron took part in a Trogneux theater performance when he was 18 years old at a private Jesuit school in Amiens, northern France.

Brigitte, the mother of three, was the supervisor of the drama club. Macron, a literature lover who wanted to be a novelist, was a member.

He then moved to Paris, in his last year of high school. At the time, he recalls, "we were talking to each other all the time, spending hours and hours talking on the phone."

For her part, Brigitte stated in a TV documentary: “Little by little, he overcame all my resistance in an incredible way; Be patient,” she added, “He was not a teenager. His relationship was equal to that of other adults.”

She eventually moved to the French capital to catch up with him, and divorced her husband. They have been together ever since, then finally married in 2007.

The parents of the teenage Macron did not approve of this relationship.

According to what Arm News reported on the book “Emmanuel Macron, the Perfect Young Man” written by Anne Fulda, Macron’s parents asked Trogneux to stay away from their son, at least until he turned 18 and his parents initially tried to keep them away from each other by sending him to Paris to finish The last year of his studies, but the attempt failed.

Fulda stated that Trogneux told his parents, "I can't promise you anything," and their relationship continued until they married in 2007, after Trogneux was divorced from her husband.

Macron's parents told Fulda that they believed their son was actually falling in love with Trogneux's daughter. But they were surprised to hear that this was not the case.

They added: "We could not believe it," and Macron's mother told Trogneux: "Don't you see... you had and still have your life, but my son will not have children from you."

Although Fulda did interview Macron and Trogneux, Macron's spokesman said he was disappointed that Trogneux did not ask for his parents' approval of the relationship.

In the book, Trogneux said: “No one will ever know at what moment our story turned into a love story. This belongs to us. This is our secret.”

And although she did not bear his name - and now Brigitte stands by his side. "I don't hide it," Macron told a French television channel this week. "She is here in my life, as she has always been," according to the Daily Mail report.

During a speech in March 2017, Macron kissed her on the podium, telling his supporters: "I owe her a lot, because she contributed to what I am now."

Macron described how his wife would not be "behind him", adding: "If elected, no, sorry, when we are elected, she will be there, with a place and a mission."

Macron studied philosophy at the University of Paris Nanterre, and attended the Ecole Nationale d'Administration - an elite school in France.

After working as a government employee for a few years, he became a banker at the Rothschild Investment Banking Company.

He quickly climbed the career ladder, making millions, before becoming an economic advisor to President Francois Hollande in 2012, and then Minister of the Economy two years later. In a different development, in February 2017, Macron was suddenly forced to deny that he was gay and had an extramarital affair. His political rivals claimed that he was supported by a "gay lobby".

Macron mocked rumors of his relationship with Mathieu Gallet, chief executive of Radio France, during a meeting with activists of the "Forward" movement during his election campaign.

“If you are told that I live a double life with Mathieu Gallet, it is because of my shadow that suddenly came out through holograms,” Macron said, referring to a rival candidate using holograms.

A spokesman for Macron confirmed that the comments were "a clear denial of the rumours".
