The nurse appeared, carrying the infants shortly after the first moments of the explosion, to smuggle them outside a hospital in the Ashrafieh area near downtown Beirut, refusing to leave them among the wounded and some corpses, trying to call for help by any means. Photojournalism and a lot of wars.. I can say that I have not seen anything like the one I saw today in Al-Roum Hospital.. I was drawn to this heroine who was rushing to call while holding three newborn babies surrounded by dozens of dead bodies and wounded.”

chaos and screaming
The nurse, Pamela Zenon, the owner of the photo, told Al-Arabiya.net what happened to her on that fateful night, “The hospital was badly damaged by the blast, especially the neonatal intensive care unit where I work. When the explosion sounded, I rushed to rescue the five children placed in the incubator (a device used to maintain appropriate environmental conditions for newborns). I took them to the hospital entrance. My concern was to ensure their safety, because they were weak in structure. I led them to the main entrance to the hospital, where there was chaos and people screaming. I asked to call my family to assure them of me before I took the children to a safe place.”

And she continued, "I picked up the phone in the hospital and tried repeatedly to call my family because my phone was broken to inform them that I would not return home, but I failed because of the heavy pressure on communications."

In search of a nursing room
Pamela left the stethoscope and took the three children (two of them twins) out of the hospital, walking on her feet, accompanied by a doctor specializing in gynecology, in search of a care room in nearby hospitals to put the children, but she did not succeed in doing so because of the large number of wounded and dead who were distributed among the hospitals.

After contacts with the specialist doctor, a pediatric care room was secured at Abu Joudeh Hospital in the Jal El Dib area, which is tens of kilometers from the Ashrafieh area.

After she secured the children, she called her family, who lived through difficult hours, and told them that she was fine and that she had saved the lives of three children.

Then Pamela hung up to call the children's parents and reassured them that they were in a safe place as if nothing had happened. A work I will never forget in my life.
With joy, she said, "I lived a difficult adventure, but in return I saved the lives of babies, and this is a job I will never forget in my life."

As soon as Pamela reassured her three "children", she returned to the hospital to help her colleagues continue the humanitarian work.

She concluded, "The damage is great and the tragedy is great. Many departments were destroyed in the hospital. We started removing the rubble and removing the rubble. The hospital’s return to work normally takes time, but we will definitely return.”
