What is the story of Israa Gharib that shook the world?

Israa Gharib, a young woman who shook the world with her sad story and her regretful youth, was a spark of life and a girl dreaming of a life full of love and hope. Her story began a few months ago when a young man proposed to her, and her story ended a few days ago in a mortuary in the custody of the Palestinian Public Prosecution, amid accusations by activists on the social media sites that her brother had killed her, but the family has another story.

Esraa's story turned into a public opinion issue, after the hashtag #We are all_Israa_Gharib invaded social media. Feminist organizations, activists and human rights activists considered that what happened to Israa was a murder committed by her family due to social problems and incitement from relatives.

The activists based their accusations on several facts, the most important of which is the arrival of Israa to the hospital on August XNUMX with a fractured spine and several bruises on her body, which was considered evidence of severe violence by her family.

Activists also relied on several audio recordings that show a dispute between Israa and her female relatives over social practices, and the publication of photos and videos with her fiancé, despite the fact that she has not officially married. In one of the recordings, Israa defends herself, saying that what she is doing is aware of her father and mother and that she has done nothing wrong.

As for the third and clearest “proof” for those who believe that Israa Gharib was killed, it is a video recording from inside the hospital in which the voice of Israa can be heard screaming as if she is being beaten.

The police did not arrest anyone, and Israa Gharib did not accuse anyone

According to private information obtained by Al Arabiya, the police received a report on August 9 of the arrival of a girl to the hospital with bruises and a fractured spine. The police opened an investigation into the incident and questioned Israa and her family. Israa did not accuse anyone, and said during the investigation that she fell from the balcony of her house in an accident, and therefore the file was closed in the hospital and the matter ended with the police.

According to the information available, the hospital allowed Israa to return to her home after it was found that she could walk on her feet normally, in light of a medical condition that the doctors did not understand.

Doctors now prefer to remain silent and not to declare in accordance with the desire of the Public Prosecution, which requested to conceal the course of the investigation in order to preserve its confidentiality.

Israa Gharib returned to her home, and a few days later it was announced that she had died of a stroke. The prosecution kept her body and decided to perform an autopsy to determine the cause of the death of the young woman.

Esraa's death sparked a wave of anger among women's organizations and human rights activists, and the issue of Israa turned into an issue of local and Arab public opinion, which prompted the girl's family to break their silence.

Muhammad Safi, the husband of Esraa’s sister, whom the family appointed as its official spokesperson, began posting videos on social media threatening those accusing the family of killing their daughter, and saying that any accusation made by a person “will be held accountable by the clan and the judiciary.” In his recordings, Muhammad Safi challenged the prosecution, the police, and anyone else to prove that Israa was in fact subjected to any form of violence or that she was killed.

Muhammad Safi admitted that the scream that he heard in the hospital was actually Israa's scream, but confirmed that the girl was then surrounded by a team of doctors and parents "who know exactly what was going on." Muhammad Safi hinted that Esraa's personality witnessed major changes immediately after her engagement, indicating that Esraa was haunted by jinn.

This theory was confirmed by another recording of one of the relatives of the family of Israa Gharib, in which he says that the girl's family tried to help her by showing her to a sheikh, in an attempt to remove the jinn from her body, as he put it.

The outcry over the death of Israa and the transformation of her case into a public opinion issue puts the Palestinian police in front of a real responsibility to reveal the cause of the young woman's death.

Pending the results of the autopsy from the Public Prosecution, the office of Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh was also forced to issue a statement promising fairness to Israa Gharib, to publish the results of the investigation in her case, and to impose the maximum penalty on whoever killed her if it was proven that Israa had been murdered.
