Yves Saint Laurent high-end museum in Marrakech

Whoever said that Paris alone is the capital of fashion and elegance, there is Milan, London, New York, and today fashion has a new destination, which is Marrakesh. After three years of hard work, the Yves Saint Laurent house was set up to set up a museum. The Yves Saint Laurent Museum was opened in Marrakesh, the Moroccan city that this late French designer loved and lived in. Marrakesh has always been a source of inspiration for Saint Laurent, while his Parisian workshop was the ideal place to implement his ideas, thus he was able to combine contrasts: classics and ornaments, straight lines and the elegance of “Arabesque” art… all in a style that has won the admiration of millions of women around the world.

This museum is located near the Majorelle Garden, which Saint Laurent acquired in the early eighties, and turned it into a lush oasis filled with the most beautiful plants and flowers. The French designer had fallen in love with the city of Marrakesh since 1966, so he bought a house and came back to it constantly.
The museum’s outer courtyard is adorned with the famous YSL logo, while in one of its halls, whose walls are covered in black, we find about 50 fashion designs that summarize Yves Saint Laurent’s career in the field of fashion: from black smoking suits, passing through a cape decorated with “bougainvillea” flowers that decorate the Majorelle Garden, From the jackets emblazoned with “Van Gogh” graphics and the famous “Mondrian” gown … as well as African touches and lush gardens.

On one of the walls of the museum’s rooms are a set of photographs summarizing important dates in Yves Saint Laurent’s career, starting with the letter of recommendation that the editor-in-chief of “Vogue” carried him in 1954 when he was only 17 years old, to his farewell to the world of high fashion in 2002 Six years before his death.
The voice of the French star Catherine Deneuve, one of his most prominent muses, who was present at the opening of the Saint Laurent Museum in Paris at the beginning of October, he also attended the opening of his museum in Marrakech to accompany the visitors during their tour around the place. We also find a picture of Deneuve in one of the halls of the Moroccan Museum, along with tourist photos of Morocco dating back to the early nineties of the last century.

The Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech will be a place full of life thanks to a series of diverse cultural activities hosted by a library and special galleries for exhibitions and lectures. It is expected that this museum will attract 300 visitors in the first year of its opening, while the Majorelle Garden, one of the most visited tourist places in Morocco, attracts about 800 visitors each year.
The exterior architecture of the museum is colored with the red stone that characterizes the city of Marrakesh, but its design was modern with its simple lines and elegant curves. It cost about 15 million euros to build this museum, which was collected from pieces of art owned by Yves Saint Laurent and sold at public auctions. In the following months, the “Yves Saint Laurent Foundation” plans to open “Villa Oasis” to the public, the house where the designer lived in Marrakech, where he put the initial designs for the costumes that he was implementing in his Parisian studio.

Let's take a walk together today on a journey through the corners of this museum.
