One of the worst breakfast habits that causes your brain to age is eating too much saturated fat and added sugar, says nutritionist Amy Goodson.

She emphasized that breakfast greatly affects how quickly your brain progresses as you get older, according to Eat This, Not That, a website that specializes in health and nutritional affairs.

"Mind Diet"

For this, she suggested following the guidelines of the "Mind Diet", explaining that this diet is a healthy brain diet designed to delay neurodegeneration, a combination of the DASH diet and the Mediterranean diet that focuses on food groups that can help boost your brain power and protect it from the factors associated with age, such as Alzheimer's disease.

She also continued that the MIND diet helps people avoid processed foods and red meat by eating plenty of vegetables, especially leafy greens, fruits, legumes, beans, whole grains and fish, while allowing poultry products.

She noted that this way of eating aids cognitive performance in older adults and is known to provide your brain with essential nutrients as you age in order to help prevent age-related cognitive decline or disease.

The most important steps

For starters, the expert said that certain specific items should be avoided when you can.

She pointed out that the goal is to eat fewer foods saturated with fat and foods that contain added sugars, and at breakfast time, this means eliminating high-fat breakfast sandwiches such as those containing high-fat meats such as croissants and biscuits, as well as pastries loaded with sugar. So, skip the crepes, muffins, muffins, and breakfast bread.

On the other hand, she explained that if you are looking for delicious and brain-healthy breakfast foods to eat, you have plenty of options. You can add berries to high-fiber oatmeal, or mix vegetables (especially dark green leafy vegetables) into an omelet with low-fat cheese. Or add nuts to whole grains.

It is noteworthy that many studies have stressed the importance of eating breakfast regularly, and stressed the need not to skip it.

The results also confirmed that eating breakfast regularly contributes to reducing the risk of heart disease, while skipping this important meal can contribute to an increase in cholesterol and mortality.
