Karl carries the world of Chanel to its roots in Hamburg

Karl Lagerfeld chose to take a trip back to his German roots at the Chanel Metiers d'Art pre-fall 2018, presented Thursday in his home city of Hamburg.
The show was held in the Concert Hall of the huge and modernly designed Elbphilharmonie Opera House. In the middle of the stage was an orchestra that played a group of musical pieces composed especially for the occasion by the famous British cellist Oliver Coats.

The models wore 87 elegant looks before the eyes of the audience, which numbered 1400, which included a group of celebrities and friends of the house of Chanel stars such as: Kristen Stewart, Tilda Swinton, and Lily-Rose Depp.

Lagerfeld's return to his hometown of Hamburg was not out of nostalgia, he says, but to take advantage of all the engineering that the city's new opera house has to offer, whose architecture and sound effects are said to ensure the purest sound possible.

The sailors' clothing in Hamburg during the XNUMXs formed the main inspiration for this collection of designs, which also retained its modernity par excellence. Thick sweaters and stockings, nautical-themed jackets and coats, colorful wool jumpers and of course the iconic tweed ones…all were on the models’ looks.

As for the evening wear, it was decorated with elegant embroideries, shiny threads, and transparent materials, in addition to sequin details and touches of feathers.

All models covered their heads in sailor-inspired hats that were creatively wrapped in transparent scarves. The bags that accompanied the costumes were also inspired by the bags of sailors and the containers in which goods are transported to and from the port of Hamburg.
