PCOD affects millions of women worldwide and can cause a wide range of symptoms, including irregular periods, acne, weight gain, and even infertility.

Although there is no cure for PCOD, making dietary changes can help relieve symptoms and improve overall health, according to the Hindustan Times.

Serious complications

And care must be taken when eating foods for these women who suffer from it, as some foods can make symptoms worse and increase the risk of unpleasant complications.

Experts warn against eating three foods that PCOD patients should avoid to help control their health and improve their quality of life.

Tanesha Bawa, a nutrition expert, says, “When a patient is diagnosed with PCOD, which is one of the most common syndromes, 3 hormones – androgens, insulin and progesterone – are primarily affected. A major role in the reproductive endocrine system throughout a woman's life.

An imbalance in the gut microbiome leads to a multiplier effect between these hormones, leading to many health conditions such as pregnancy complications, PCOD, endometriosis, and others. It has also been shown that the gut barrier in PCOS patients is compromised, leading to leaky gut, which is a condition in which harmful toxins can leak into the bloodstream.”

Dr. Bawa recommends avoiding the following when diagnosed with PCOS:

1. Refined carbohydrates

It is a common symptom to have unbalanced glucose levels when a diagnosis of PCOD is made. Therefore, the consumption of refined grains such as wheat and flour can lead to high blood sugar levels, so you should avoid eating them because they can cause the body to produce more insulin, which gradually helps the body to develop resistance to it.

2. Polysaccharides

Dr. Bawa warns PCOD patients against eating sugar as it can lead to a sharp spike in insulin levels or to high blood pressure and triglycerides as well, being risk factors often associated with other health effects such as oxidative stress, disturbed sleep, inflammation and accelerated aging.

3. Soybean

She adds that while soybeans are a great alternative to meat, it is a genetically modified food that contains phytoestrogens, which negatively affect the hormonal balance of the body, and therefore soybeans should not be eaten at all.
