Queen Mary wears the official royal jewels for the first time in official photographs

Queen Marie of Denmark wore the Danish Crown Jewels for the first time in a new official portrait

The Danish Crown Jewels date back to Queen Sophie, who was married to King Christian VI.

In 1746, she specified in her will that her jewels should not be transferred to a specific person but should always be at the disposal of the queen sitting on the throne.

The emerald set worn by Queen Mary in the picture is one of the four jewelery sets at the disposal of the Queen of Denmark and is usually displayed in the treasury at Rosenborg Castle.

The set was designed by the jeweler C. M. Weishaupt and was a gift from Christian VIII to Queen Caroline Amalie probably on their wedding anniversary on 22 May 1840.

The emeralds and diamonds in the collection are partly reused items from Queen Sophie's jewelery collection from old bracelets and newly purchased stones..

The style consists of classic shapes such as vines, flowers, bows and scroll frames inspired by the French Crown Jewels of the time..

It is customary for the Crown Jewels to remain in Denmark, which means they are not taken on the Queen's visits abroad.

The Danish Crown Jewels are the only ones in the world that are displayed in a museum and at the same time worn by the Queen of the country

After stripping her grandchildren of their royal titles, the Queen of Denmark has no regrets
