$XNUMX million from Bill Gates and Estee Lauder

It seems that there is someone who cares for Alzheimer's patients and early dementia. American billionaires Bill Gates and Leonard Lauder, honorary president of the Estée Lauder company for cosmetic products, said that they will allocate $ 30 million over three years to encourage the development of new tests for early detection of Alzheimer's disease, according to AFP.

For Gates, the Microsoft founder, the launch of the program followed the announcement in November of a personal investment of $50 million in the Dementia Discovery Fund, a fund aimed at researching treatments for the disease that causes brain damage.

Gates said one of his motivations is his personal experience with family members who suffer from Alzheimer's.
According to the International Alzheimer's Association, the disease affects nearly 50 million people worldwide, and the number of people infected is expected to rise to more than 131 million by 2050.
Gates and Lauder provided seed capital for early diagnosis efforts through the Foundation that Lauder created to develop Alzheimer's drugs. They will be joined by others including the Dolby family and the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation.
Funds provided through the initiative will be available to scientists and clinicians who work on a global scale in academia, charities, and biotechnology companies.
