Victim of mass harassment in Mansoura, I will not give up

After the incident of mass harassment of a girl in the city of Mansoura, Dakahlia Governorate, rocked the Egyptian street, over the past two days, the Egyptian girl, the victim of the incident, recounted the details of the incident, causing a great surprise.

The 20-year-old girl, called Mai, who was subjected to mass harassment, and is studying at the Faculty of Education, told Al Arabiya.net that she and her friend Zahraa, who appeared in the harassment videos, did not give in, as was rumored before, but demanded that the real perpetrators be caught, adding that she discovered that Those arrested were children who were not among the perpetrators, or were involved in the incident.

The girl recounted the details, saying that she had agreed with her friend Zahraa, a student at the Faculty of Engineering, Mansoura University, to celebrate New Year's Eve in a restaurant in Mansoura.

She also added that as soon as she and her friend came down, a number of young men attacked her and started chasing them and chasing them with obscene words, so they escaped from them and hid inside a mobile phone shop on Al Mashaya Street.

And she continued, that the harassers gathered in front of the shop, and tried to destroy it in order to get them out, which prompted the owner to take them out for fear of being destroyed, adding that she and her colleague fled towards a house in the area, but the harassers continued to pursue them.

In addition, she explained that about 7 passers-by, armed with knives, surrounded her to protect her from the harassers, while two others surrounded her friend Zahraa, and pushed them into two cars to escape from the perpetrators, who numbered about 150, demanding access to the real perpetrators and speedy bringing them to trial.

The National Council for Women intervenes

In a related context, the National Council for Women announced its full support for the two girls who were subjected to the mass harassment incident. Amal Abdel Moneim, Director of the Women’s Complaints Office, said that “the Council communicated with the two girls to learn the latest developments in the case, to confirm that it will support them legally by taking over a lawyer for the Women’s Complaints Office. The case is free of charge, with the office bearing all the expenses, as well as providing them with free full psychological support through specialists as well.”

The council also called for imposing the maximum penalty on the perpetrators in accordance with the provisions of the law, to serve as a sermon and through it to those who tempted themselves to do this shameful act again, and in order to preserve and protect the rights and freedom of members of society

It is noteworthy that the security services in Egypt had arrested a number of individuals who were involved in the harassment incident, which was revealed in a video circulated on social media during the past days.

The video revealed a collective harassment of a girl on Al-Mashaya Street, in Mansoura, after dozens of young men gathered around her, and verbally and physically abused her, prompting passers-by to intervene and rescue her, and then run away with her.

The video sparked widespread criticism, as the tweeters demanded that the security services reach the perpetrators as quickly as possible, and refer them to a criminal trial, in order to deter them and their peers from repeating this crime.
