What is prolonged sleep syndrome?
Sleeping for long periods is a syndrome that may affect some people and is called Kleine-Levin syndrome:
1- It is a neurological disorder that affects adolescents and children from 8 years old to 23 years old.
2- It is characterized by frequent periods of long sleep and eating excessive amounts of food.
3- Patients sleep for more than one day and night and only wake up to eat or go to the bathroom.
4- Sufferers suffer from confusion, complete dispersion, complete lack of energy, lethargy, lack of emotions and apathy.
5- Patients reported that they are very sensitive to light and noise.
6- In males, excessive sexual desire is observed, and in females, cases of depression.
7- The condition may disappear for months or even years and then return without warning.
8- The patient appears in good health with no behavioral or physical defect after the seizure ends, even medical examinations do not show any defect.
9- The cause of the condition is not known and family support is the best treatment, and drug therapy can be introduced to relieve seizures.
10- Some symptoms may occur before the attack, but the appearance of symptoms does not mean infection.
The main symptoms that precede the attack by 3 or 5 days:
1- Cold
2- Respiratory infection
3- vomiting blood
4- Laryngitis
Diagnosing this condition may be difficult because of the spacing of the episodes.
