Why can't we reach the end of the rainbow?

A rainbow is not a stationary object suspended in the sky. It's an illusion that forms between the sun's rays, the rain, and your eyes. Light bounces off raindrops at an angle of 40 degrees to red light, and 42 degrees to blue. And that's right wherever you are, until you move, the rainbow is moving too and you can never catch it.
