Nystagmus or Dancing Eye Syndrome

Nystagmus is a form of involuntary (or (in some rare cases) involuntary) eye movements that is acquired in early childhood or in later stages. Doctors at Moorfields Eye Hospital advise the importance of knowing the causes and symptoms of this disease that causes a degree of shortness or limited vision, which affects one in every 1000 people.

Nystagmus or eye tremors leading to rapid, swinging movements of the eyes from side to side and top to bottom is caused by a change in the functioning of brain cells, especially in the area responsible for eye movement. There are two types of nystagmus: there are congenital nystagmus, which appears in the first months of birth, and the second type that develops with life.

Experts at Moorfields Eye Hospital in Dubai note that this disease is common and more prevalent among children and can be a congenital defect (from childhood) or acquired. The disease usually appears in children at birth or in the first six months, while the disease can develop as a result of diseases such as Multiple sclerosis, brain tumor, inner ear infection, trauma (head injury) and even as side effects of some medications and prescription drugs.

All types of nystagmus are involuntary, which means that patients cannot control their eyes. According to experts at Moorfields Hospital, most of these patients have some type of visual impairment, which ranges from very mild to severe.

The disease occurs either alone or is associated with other medical conditions. Major indications of the condition include eye tremors, double vision, and head tilt.

Nystagmus or dancing eye syndrome has no specific treatment, but some underlying conditions may be treated. People with nystagmus may also resort to surgery to treat their head tilt, along with neurotherapy and other effective treatments, aimed at the same time as cataracts and strabismus.

As researchers look to prevention and treatment methods, their understanding of the condition remains incomplete. Researchers hope to develop medical practices in the near future to help control nystagmus and help people with the disease.

Since this disease primarily affects children, it is necessary to look at the development and enhancement of academic performance for people with Dancing Eye Syndrome. This can be done by providing better medical care, glasses, contact lenses and many other aids to treat low vision and motivate children with nystagmus to do their best in school.

As more cases are discussed in the public domain, there is a growing support system available to affected people. Moorfields Eye Hospital believes that allowing the improvement of medical and treatment services, taking advantage of opportunities, increasing scientific research in the field of visual impairment, improving the quality of life in general, and raising awareness of nystagmus to be part of the solution.

The hospital provides world-class outpatient diagnosis and treatment of all surgical and non-surgical eye conditions, for both adults and children, from basic examinations and eye health checks to retinal surgery, LASIK surgery, cataracts, corneal grafts, diabetic retinopathy, strabismus correction surgery, oculoplastic surgery and providing Medical consultations related to hereditary eye diseases and eye tumor services by permanent and visiting consultants
