The massacre of children in Texas and the worst accidents in the United States

US President Joe Biden described the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Yuvaldi, Texas, as "another massacre" in the United States.

"Losing a child is like tearing out a piece of your soul," Biden said in a speech after the shooting. He added that the feeling was "stifling," according to CNN.

He called on the US president to pray for the victims and "stand up to the gun lobby."

He continued, “I ask the nation tonight to pray for them, and to give strength to fathers and brothers in the darkness they are feeling now. We, as a nation, have to ask, when will we, in the name of God, stand up to the arms lobby? When are we going to do in the name of God what we all know must be done from within?

The US President ordered the flags at half-staff on federal buildings to mourn the lives of the victims.

Texas massacre

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to the Texas Tribune newspaper that 18 children and three adults were killed after the shooting, and others were injured.

State Governor Greg Abbott said the shooter, 18, a Yuvaldi school student, was killed and believed to have been killed by law enforcement officials.

Pete Arredondo, Yuvaldi Independent Unified School District Police Chief, explained that the shooter acted alone.

"What happened in Yuvaldi is a terrible tragedy that cannot be tolerated in the state of Texas," Abbott said.

US Senator Chris Murphy called during a speech to the Senate to pass laws that reduce shootings.

"I'm here to beg you to find a way to pass laws that make this less likely," Murphy said in his speech.
